As our contribution
to the Ride2stride Festival
we are offering both a walk and a talk on
Thursday 3rd May
i) Monks,
shepherds, farmers and traders;
a walk through time in Upper Ribblesdale
Join Ingleborough Archaeology Group chairman
Dr David Johnson for a guided walk in Upper Ribblesdale.
We will meet at Ribblehead Station at
10.30 (north bound trains arr.10.06
- south bound trains arr.10.17) and then walk south to Horton in Ribblesdale
looking at many points of interest on the way. We will arrive at Horton
Station at approx. 15.00 (north bound trains dep.15.53 - south bound
trains dep.15.34). Those travelling by car will need to catch the north
bound train to return to Ribblehead
The walk is approximately
14km (9miles) and moderate. Please wear comfy walking shoes and bring
wet weather clothing and a packed lunch. Dogs to be kept on a lead at
all times.
Proposed route:
Ribblehead Station - Ribblehead Quarry nature reserve - Gauber Viking-type
farmstead - Ribblehead House deserted farmstead - Thorns Gill - Thorns
deserted hamlet & monastic grange - Nether Lodge - EITHER via Ling Gill
and Dry Lade to Old Ing OR via God's Bridge to Old Ing - Ribble Way
via deserted Sell Gill farmstead - Horton station.
